Lead Instructor: Rob Pitera - Rob has been an elementary school educator for over 30 years and his interest in hunting developed later in life. It was difficult for him to find someone to "show him the ropes" and after a couple of months of frustration in the woods, he found a college friend to teach him the necessary skills. Over the past 20 years, Rob has been honing his skills and has developed the Hunting 101 course with a few specific goals in mind:

  • create an ethics based, practical, hands on, and stress free learning environment

  • provide an opportunity to fire a variety of rifles and use different types of scopes in order to make an informed decision at the gun shop

  • teach how to spot signs of deer in the woods, discuss where deer are more likely to travel to increase hunting success

  • demonstrate how to properly field dress a deer and the best area to shoot to maximize the quality of the venison

  • prepare venison in a variety of ways
